To
many people, public relations is synonymous with publicity. Not to
us.
Publicity
-- the effort to secure fair and accurate editorial coverage of a person
or organization -- is a key component of most public relations
campaigns, including virtually every one executed by
Ryan
Wellnitz & Associates, Inc.
Successful
publicity programs require an understanding of the media (print,
broadcast, interactive) that will convey the agreed-on messages from the
client to the target audiences. Based on such an understanding,
high-caliber publicists prepare materials designed and written to the
editors' requirements and expressing the client's message
A public relations
campaign might also involve
one-to-one contact with industry or
securities analysts, direct mail (e-mail or snail-mail), primary and
secondary research, videos, and a host of other techniques and
instruments. Such a campaign can also involve advertising,
although this is usually considered a separate, if companion, effort.
Any organized, honest
professional effort to help a client inform and persuade a constituency
and move that constituency to action qualifies as public relations.
